.44 Special Brass
« on: December 08, 2014, 12:51:53 PM »
This has nothing to do with G.A.F., but do any of you have any .44 Special brass you want to get rid of?  I may even have some brass to trade depending on what you're looking for.

Niederlander,

.44 Mag once fired brass use to be very easy to come by, and was cheap. (Note I said use to be)
Most of my early efforts at making up .44 S&W Russian cases came from these.
Just a thought on my part.

How much do you need? I have tons of it because I use it a lot for all my black powder shooting.

I would LOVE to have a Triple Lock, but that is strictly out of my league.  I AM in the process of rebuilding an Old Model Ruger .357 into a .44 Special.  The .44 Special was the first center fire cartridge I ever reloaded, using bullets I cast myself.  I'd forgotten how much I like that round.  Right now I'm collecting parts.  I've got the .44 Special cylinder, but I'm looking for a barrel, either 7 1/2" or 4 5/8", Blackhawk or Vaquero.  Should be interesting!

Did anyone ever confirm if the threads on the old model and NM/Super Blackhawk were the same?

They're the same.  Sometimes you still have to adjust the shoulder, but they screw in.  For what it's worth, Colt 3rd Generation barrels have the same threads.

If it was a female, do you think it would go after younger pistols?!

I have an XDm. You can store your Cuger in my gun safe with it and we'll see if a few months from now any new little subcompacts show up.  ::)

I bought my wife a pair of Ruger New Model Blackhawks in .44 Spl. She shot them in a match once and went back to her Uberti Stallions in .38 Spl.

That made them 'mine' by default as I sold one of my Garands to buy them. I sneak them out once in a while and just love 'em! Great little guns in a compact package shooting a round with some authority.

I'll keep my eyes open for a .44spl barrel.

The only thing I've found that will fit is a nickle 12" Colts Buntline barrel.  That would just be WRONG on that Ruger though.

I've seen a few Colt barrels, but I'm going to hold off until I find a Ruger 4 5/8" Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk barrel.  I'm not in a HUGE hurry, anyway.  (Well, actually I am, but I'm trying to get better at being patient!)

Looks like they're easy enough to find in small calibers.
