Spencer Rifle Cleaning Video
« on: November 04, 2014, 05:39:07 PM »
Below is a link to a video I made about how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble a reproduction Spencer rifle. I originally filmed it as a step-by-step tutorial for guys in my reenactment group, but it may be of some interest to others here:

All the best.

Nactorman:  I found your vidoe very enlightening as a new owner of a Spencer. It helped me in the disassembly process alot. Your video shows a bore snake. I did not catch who made it or who sells it. Is it homemade? I looked at my local gun range and local Bass Pro shop, they did not have anything close to the right size. I did find a cleaning rod and brass brush though. Maybe some shotgun boresnake would work???

Hi,

I got my bore snake from Bass Pro. I cannot remember the brand name. I will check the next time I go in the shop.

You can use the .410 shotgun snake for a .44 or .45 repro Spencer (the .410 snake even has '45 cal' stamped on the weight).

A 32 or 28 gauge shotgun bore snake should work for a .50 cal rifle.

My bass pro also sells a .50 cal bore snake which is designed for inline muzzleloaders. That is the one that I am using in the video.
