The Italian 7th Calvary Colt reproductions

Hello Forum,
Rabbit here, I am a new member and was interested in picking up one of the 7th Calvary SSA reproductions.  I have seen both Uberti and Pietta make them, is one better or preferable to the other? I am not a competitor, but I have been interested in American Western history and I have picked up a few revolvers from the indian wars time period. I am getting close to retirement and I was hoping to add one more revolver to my collection.

Cimarron/Uberti will be a close replica of an original, Cimarron's Black Powder frame Calvary model.
Pietta's , not so much.

I have two Ubertis with the 7 1/2 barrel and old model frame in 45 colt. It's the "cavalry" model without the military stamps. I like them very much. I also have several other Uberti revolvers and rifles and have not had a complaint about any of them. I cannot comment on the Pietta version, as I do not have one. But I have heard nothing but good things about Pietta revolvers for years. I am a Uberti man, but would not hesitate to buy a Pietta.

I have the 5 1/2" model of the same piece, I like it very much. It is the most accurate SAA I own, the piece out shoots my pair of Colt Custom Shop 44 Special's.

Me too. I think the 5 1/2" is the most well balanced barrel length on a SAA.

I love my Cimarron Uberti 5 1/2" version of the Artillery model....I'm sure the 7 1/2" 7th Calvary model is just as awesome!

I'm not trying to nitpick, but want to point out that Calvary is the hill Jesus was crucified upon. Cavalry are mounted troops.

Hi Rabbit,
I'm an amateur Western history buff, too and have always been fascinated with Custer and the 7th Cavalry.
So I picked up one of these a couple years ago and love it.
I may have just gotten lucky but it's every bit as smooth as my one Longhunter Smoke Wagon.

Unless they have sold... there was two (2) Custer model (Uberti) 45LC 7.5" barrels on Gunbroker.  One had the 7th Cav markings and the other one was the standard Uberti Cattleman 7.5" barrel without the markings.  Both were in the Old Frame Models.

Howdy Hatman,
That is pretty high praise for a revolver, I have never seen a Smokewagon model in real life but I have watched a few videos. My favorite was one done by Mike Beliveau, he really liked the Smokewagon!

If Cimarron is out of stock have your Dealer place the piece on back-order. My Brother ordered one last Year and waited for the piece, got it in Six months.

Was well worth the wait. Buy only the Cimarron Uberti.

When I got my Artillery model, I checked a few measurements. I slugged the barrel and the groove diameter is .450". Then I used a pin gauge and micrometer and checked all the cylinder throats, all measured .451".

My plinker load is 45 Cowboy special brass with a .451" round ball & a case full of APP 3F. A very fun load to shoot.

Yes, it's the standard finish...and it is beautiful.
