Odd Spencer
« on: October 11, 2014, 11:21:30 PM »
Howdy all!

I went to Pigeon Forge TN last Spring with the fiancé, and came across something odd. At the Smokey Mountain Knife Works store, I came across a Spencer (mislabeled as a Sharps) with an extremely short barrel. It looked original, though I wasn't smart enough to think to write down a serial number. I was curious if that type of modification was common, and what type of advantages it would bring to the firearm. This is pure curiosity.

Attached is a picture of me handling said carbine, though it's kind of tough to see where the barrel ends.

Thanks folks!  ;D

FWIW, I have seen 14" barreled sharps carbines said to have been used by stage coach guards. Maybe that was the case with this spencer. ???

Shotgun conversion?

Honestly, I didn't know they could be converted to fire shotgun shells. Fair enough.

That makes sense. I was just thinking about it the other day, it just seemed kind of odd to me. Thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks for the reply!

Hi Trum4n1208,

Maybe you could make a return trip to that shop and get the information I wasn't able to get after SIX very nice and friendly Emails to the Knife Shoppe.  Tried all the listed Emails, but no response . . . kind of surprised at the lack of customer service ???

Unfortunately, with class scheduling and funds, it'll be a little while before I'm able to make another trip. But I do promise, next time I'm there, I'll go looking for that Spencer ASAP.

I will say, I think I need to get a Spencer, if only because the community is so helpful. Thank you, gentlemen.
