Got an antique fur-felt Stetson (ca. maybe 1975 or so) that has no body left and soaked up rain like a sponge.  Odd part is, after the rain it looked pretty good, all clean(er) and respectable.

Once it dried it had pleasing slouch hat shape, too.

Now, to the question: is there anything I can apply to the hat to stiffen it and make it more water resistant?

As I told you on the phone before I saw the message, hat stiffener which is shellac. ;D

Mix two or three of them little blue pills in with some alcohol and spray liberally on the hat.  ::)

Asked an ER nurse friend what they did if it does.  She says the first thing they try it a necked picture of Hillary Clinton, the next step you don't want to know. :o
