Wedge issue on new 1851 Colt Navy

Hi all,

New to the forum and single action revolvers.  After initial break down and cleaning I an having a hard time installing the wedge.

It hangs up before it gets in far enough to turn the retaining screw.  I have tried to tap it in but have not been successful and do not want to use too much force.

Any tips or tricks would be helpful.

Hmmm...51 Navy C&B ... the screw is there to retain the spring catch , when the wedge is tapped out.
You do not turn it to release the wedge , just tap the wedge through and allow the screw to catch the spring stop.

when re-installing the barrel wedge on your 51 Navy C&B the spring catch just should just clear the lug allowing it to retain the
wedge ...unlike the 51 R&M which has a  flat on the screw and no spring on the wedge and is turned to allow the wedge to remove.....

if you look closely the 51 C&B Navy screw head is round, the Navy 51 R&M Conversion has a D shaped head, that is the flat of which I'm mentioning.

Typical Uberti fitting, I guess.  At least being too tight is probably better than being too loose!  Obviously the wedge will fit because it was in the gun when you got it.  But it might have bound up the cylinder against the barrel.  A simple, if temporary, fix that sometimes works is to back out the wedge screw one or two turns. That way the wedge doesn't have to go in quite as far before you can turn the screw to the lock position.

Fix the barrel to arbor fit.  If you don't anything else you do is just a band aid.
