Need help with smith and Wesson New Model No. 3
« on: October 02, 2014, 11:51:37 PM »
I have a chance to pick up an original although reconditioned  S&W New Model No. 3 in .38 S&W. It seems cheap. Can anyone tell me an approx value range. And is it worth fooling with. Need to know pretty quick before its gone.
Thanks

Don.

If it is a S&W New Model #3, I doubt it will be in .38 S&W. Not and be original. even a reconditioned original
That cartridge caliber was intended for use in the small frame revolvers.
You may find the New Model #3 in 38-40 WCF or 38-44 S&W Target.

Don,

It may indeed be a 3rd Model (small frame) DA revolver. But, it is not a #3 size frame, not in .38 S&W cal.
You have asked about the price twice now. What is the price being asked?  If you want more info, tell us more about the revolver!
(5 shot or 6 shot, barrel length, nickel or blue finish)

I may have been misunderstood. When I first heard of the pistol I was under the impression that it was a SA new Model 3 and I was asking about the price. It was being offered to me on a trade.I was curious about the price as it was offerred cheap (less than 500).
I then got a look at it and found that it was in fact a third model DA topbreak. I am kind of familiar with the prices on those. That is why I said if the price got right I might do some trading.
As I have it figured this weapon is about a 300 dollar pistol at best. It looks good in the pictures but when I get my mitts on it tomorrow afternoon we'll just have to see.Im not going to give him much over 2oo in trade .
Thanks

Don,

Not having seen the revolver, or been able to check it out for myself, I would think 200 to 300 $ price range is reasonable.

I picked up a re-nickeled 4 th. Model DA for $250.00. Very tight action with 4" barrel. A little later I found a 6" barrel for it at $100.00 that matched the nickel finish.

Thats about how I had it figured. This little pistol has been totally refinished and is titgh as a drum. It looks barnd new and the bore is almost perfect. I got it and a box of .38 S&W for about $100, considering what I traded.
