I could sure use some help
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:01:35 PM »
Folks, My sister-in-law has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was a confirmed bachelorette until about five years ago when she met a confirmed bachelor and the rest is history. they both have full time jobs but in their spare time, they work with the Humane society and foster animals they don't have room for or who need special care. Mike and Melissa are good people and haven't had near enough time together. On top of that, her sister (my wife) is just recovering from a flare-up of Multiple Sclerosis.
I don't know how much pull an old sinner like me has with the Lord, so I'd appreciate it if you could put in a good word for them.

Thanks,
Dan

We are all sinners.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

I'm a cancer survivor, four years in remission. Each day is a bonus for which I am grateful. Remember - it is just a disease, not a death sentence.

The Good Lord giveth and He taketh away. It is all by His grace, not ours.

When I was undergoing treatment, the only prayer I could make on my own behalf was: "Lord, I've had a good life. Cure me or kill me." He chose to cure me. Along with some very effective radiation therapy from dedicated people.

Sounds morbid, but it was not. It was a sincere appreciation for the good life I've had, including the parts I wouldn't care to live again.
And it was a recognition that I did not want to die that kind of death.

We can't all go out like John Wayne in "The Shootist".
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do these things to others and I require the same from them."  John Wayne

I don't know how much pull an old sinner like me has with the Lord, so I'd appreciate it if you could put in a good word for them.

Like Franklin said- as are we all!
Don't be afraid, The Boss is always there waiting for you to call on Him, all you have to do is ask sincerely from the heart.

Try to stay positive. I too know many cancer survivors. In fact I am married to one.

Cancer is a crazy thing. Literally. Otherwise normal cells have gone crazy, then reproduce faster than normal ones.
This mess of crazy cells is trying to eat everything it can, and ends up killing the patient if you let it.

One of the crazy things about cancer is that the fear and anxiety and despair it causes weakens the body and spirit .
A positive attitude and laughter and happiness helps more than you would ever believe, as does prayer.

The more prayers, the better. Positive prayers.

One person praying is good. More are exponentially better
Remember that He said:
"wherever two or more of you are gathered in my name..."

Our prayers sent up as well.

it's gonna be crazy, it's gonna be tough. when you think you can't do anything else
remember the simple stuff:
Ask and Ye shall Recieve
Pray often.
Pray hard.
Raise your voice up to Him, sing His praise.
Stay Positive
Follow the Doctors' instructions.

Chemo and Radiation seems to suck the life out of the patiernt  because it is a focussed attack to
poison & kill the Crazy Cells, and the byproduct is that the poison makes the patient sick as hell too,
but then the patient can outlive the cancer.

God be with you all

Professor Marvel is right about the debilitating effects of cancer treatment. However, consider the alternative ......

It took me six months to deal with the effects of my radiation. Those getting both radiation and chemo longer yet. I was as fit as hell going in which mitigated the effects it had on me and accelerated my recovery.

I could tell those who had faith going for them and those who did not. The latter had the pall of death around them, no hope.
Every once in a while during the course of my treatment, I met young children and beautiful ladies with bald heads. I swore that I would not only survive, I would celebrate my life for them as well as myself.

My survival left me bereft of patience or tolerance for whiners and complainers who do not LIVE their lives as though it mattered.
They have a sickness of the soul that no medical treatment can reverse.

This is a good topic as I in 7 of us will have to deal with the 'Big C' in some shape or form. One in four men will develop prostate cancer, but most will die WITH it as oppossed to FROM it.

Lost my FIL and my shooting partner to it. My SIL is a survivor, has her 5 years under her belt now. Prayers on the way.

The advice about positive attitude has much iron to it ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....
