new 1886 winchester
« on: August 11, 2014, 11:44:47 AM »
I am not sure if I am in the right place but here goes.

I recently acquired an 1886 Winchester Deluxe Takedown in .45-70 Govt. caliber made by Miroku and imported by BACO Inc. Morgan Utah. Truly a beautiful gun very well made and seemingly pretty accurate and most likely I could find out just how accurate if it were not for the 7 pound trigger pull.

Can anyone out there recommend a reliable and proficient gun smith anywhere, but preferably in central Texas that could do an action job to smooth out the lever and also do a trigger job to reduce the pull to 3 to 4 pounds?

The inside of the action has some coil springs (I peeked) which are not found on the original ‘86 so I am not going to try to do my own work and really screw something up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Howdy Bunk,
Give Lonnie Ammann (Tejas Long Rifles) a call:  979-279-5859 ; 979-279-3400

He's in Hearne, Texas, not terribly far from you.

Thanks Abilene
I will give him a call in the morning. His shop is just a short ride east of my east pasture

BTW don’t forget we have a fifth Saturday shoot this month. With any luck it may be a bit cooler.
Thanks again
Bunk

It's nice to have a 'smith close enough to avoid shipping guns.

I'll be working in Houston (in a nice cold ice rink  :D ) on the 5th Saturday, but might be able to make the Sept. shoot if nothing gets in the way.
