In need of a definition
« on: August 03, 2014, 09:00:26 PM »
We just done watching the movie 'Broken Trail' again and there is a word my wife asked me about.  The Sheriff out of Sheridan tells Print Ritter that "...folks around here don't take kindly to no yamping herds" or something to that affect.  What in thunder does 'yamping' mean.  My only guess is 'free grazing' or something akin to it.  Can anyone please enlighten me?

So, what happens with the National Grass Lands when grazing rights are sold off to anybody, with cash?
The National Grass Lands are public lands, owned by the peoples of the Nation. Who should benefits from this sale to private cattle owners?
Just a thought?

Those Grasslands exist because for hundreds of thousands of years large grazing animals kept them eaten down. Think Buffalo. With proper rotation of livestock they will stay grasslands. If allowed to be over grazed they they can become nearly desert. Without grazing they become brush country. like most of South Texas. IF we could bring back 10 million buffalo and let'm migrate it would be great but that ain't gonna happen.

Thanks for the responses.  That's sorta' what I figured but wanted to remove any doubt.
