For Those who ask questions there is No Explanation ( that you would understand )
For Those who dont there is None Needed !

I have started shooting percussion revolvers and that takes real Gun Powder.
If it was good enough for the old timers it is good enough for me.
It is just fun to shoot.

QBall; Nice picture of your flinter at night.  Folks watching a flinter see the smoke and hear the BOOM as one thing. It's when you fire one yourself that you are acutely aware of the sequence.  Hold, waver, squeeeeeeeeze, wait, click/whoosh/flash, wait, then BOOM!

In the early days of those huge video cameras, a friend had taken many shots of flintlocks being fired. Broken down, frame by frame, the sequence became clear. Each step in the firing sequence was on a separate frame, sometimes with several frames between steps. It makes you very aware of the reason for "follow-through"!

That lock ain't properly tuned. Just saying. ::)

Yep, there may be an every so slight delay but if everything is right it's pretty much instantaneous. Certainly not what I would call a wait.

The shooter is Silas McFee.  The gun is a Ruger Vaquero.  I loaded the 44ELR (Extra Long Russian), known as 44 Magnum to those in Rio Linda.  The charge is 35 grains of FFFg Schuetzen under Mav Dutchman Big Lube™boolits.  The flames, smoke and huge boom are all real.  The photographer was myself.  This is the genuine article in action.  Now, you know the feeling of authenticity that comes from shooting the "Genuine Powder".

Sadly, I think my time as a Frontiersman is coming to a close.  I damaged my thumb joint several years ago and It's limited range of motion is not getting better.  On my best days I am no longer competitive.  On my worst days I am embarrassing.  Currently working on RNV with APP shooting supported.  Not where I want to be but you don't always get what you want.

Sorry to hear that, Noz, but I get it. Suppository shooters (cartridge guns) still belch out a fine BOOM accompanied with copious flame, smoke & sparks. Often I feel like I am the "comic relief" for the posse. BP cartridge is still "showy" and quite pleasing to the participant & spectators. Annoying the RO & spotters is still a plus. I know it's a step down but it's not a very steep one. They are still gonna say "Here comes Old Smokey" when you head up to the firing line and ROs are still gonna try to pawn the timer off to an unsuspecting RO to avoid you. That has been my experience whether shooting perCUSSIN' or cartridge revolvers.

Why do I shoot the real true gun Powder?
Because when all the nitro shooters were going crazy looking for their powder I just picked up the phone and in two days has 20# at my door step.

Plus the fact it drives some of them crazy. Especially when the shotgun throws out a two foot flame.

To quote a remark about Frank Hamer on the Bonnie and Clyde ambush "looked like he was turning a pear burner on 'em"  with his customized 38 Remington Model 8 with a police only special 20 round magazine.

I am careful not to set the range on fire which I did one time but that is another story.

Noz, I fully understand your situation. At times I am not able to shoot duelist style because of arthritis. I bought  cartridge conversions for my 1858's and shoot Frontier Cartridge two-handed with them.

It ain't Frontiersman but I am still shooting.
