Carrier block ?

2 questions

1.  After cleaning I find a lot or residue from the Hoppes #9 coming up on the side of the carrier.  I have to constantly wipe the excess off, clean the slot that the carrier moves in to get this as clean as possible.  What am I doing wrong?

2.  After cleaning should I lube the slot where the carrier resides?

I think what you are seeing is the crud that the #9 loosened up is migrating to the top..solution  disassemble the rifle, remove the lifter block and clean the block and the mortise that it rides in.  Alternate solution -- wipe it off and shoot.

Squirt some brake cleaner in there and then blow it out with an air compressor.  As far as lube is concerned a lot of shooters run the carrier dry IF shooting smokeless powder.  If shooting BP I keep a can of Ballistol around to give it a squirt if it starts sticking during a match.

Blackfoot, I'm not comfortable enough yet to pull this fully down.  I have done it once. and was so nervous about it.  Almost drove up to Johnny Meadows to have him teach me.

Wipe it off and shoot is what I have been doing.!!

Then shoot it with a little brake cleaner.  (non-chlorinated)  Be careful to not get it on the wood, it will cause grief on the finish.  Running the block without lube seems to work well with smokeless powder.
