Correct front sight
« on: July 17, 2014, 08:32:31 AM »
Deart all  :)

I need a lower front sight for my 1876.

As an example: lyman front sights are meassured like : dovetail .360  height .400

moveable rear sights like height .400 - 500

How is this height messured?  Total height of the front sight? Or Height from barrel to top of sight?

Please help

regards

Tom

I don't remember how it is measured but you could file the sight you have down.

Tom, I believe that the height is from the bottom of the sight to the top of the bead or post.

Get yourself a Brownell's catalog and in the site section there are pretty detailed instructions on how to measure for a site.  I have used them several times in figuring out what height of site to get.
When in doubt, mumble!
