Front sight fix
« on: July 09, 2014, 11:34:10 AM »
The front sight feel off of my Henry rifle at a Civil War reenactment. A new front sight seemed like a lot of money and was not even in stock. Back in the old days, 1800s, one fix that I have seen was to use a coin. Searching through my collection I found one the right width. With the aid of a dremel tool I fashioned a new sight. I still have some finishing touches to put on it.

Which coin did you end up using to fashion the new sight?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

I ended up looking into my foreign coin collection.  It is from Brazil.
