Okay Stu what was in the cast iron chef's culinary basket?

Biscuits & gravy. Made enough for leftovers but didn't have any.

I'd put a picture of din-din up but all ya'd see would be a crock pot sittin' onna table. Gotta hunk of beef in it over 'taters 'n under mushrooms 'n cream of mushroom soup.

Hit the Food Lion thing with the fat lady earlier. She ain't much for the place. Rather be at Harris Teeter. She would, it's expensive. Ennyways, we both fergot sumthin'.

Took 'er to Harris Teeter, HER store. They're pipin' in light classical music she don't care for. Place is too expensive. Johnsonville brats – Food Lion $4.99, HT $6.49. She counters their sale items are better.

Awwwwwwww.... Brats with cabbage 'n 'taters drownt in cheap beer in the pot for a few hours............... I digress.

Goin' ta the new(er) Kroger more often now. Prices closer to FL 'n the staff has personalities. Funny part is Kroger owns Harris Teeter.

Think FL updated their SOP o'er the last few months ta prohibit pleasent verbal interaction with customers. Newer cashiers there make ya think yer atta self check out.

You need one of these near home Arcey, good prices, good service from friendly people better music, they carry to your car if you want, and using my card I got 25 cents off gas Friday.   Even have their own smokehouses so you can get even better stuff than the Johnsonville, which ain't bad.

Celebrated their 50th for their first store a while back, sometimes see old man Russ in one of the stores and he ain't afraid to come talk to you.  The one over between here and work the bosses come say hi when they see me.  Use a different one when I go with Rita.

Yeah....

Hadda owner like that in Gene Walters when he had his own place. He ran Farm Fresh the same way when he was with them. Hell, he MADE Farm Fresh the best we had. He's gone now, rest him. Farm Fresh went ta pot.

Need ta check the gas discount thing at Kroger. Think the fat lady's used it a couple times but I got it cheaper at Sam's.

The new(er) Kroger is nice. Much better'n the one we've had for years. Dumb as it may be I want to deal a well trained, friendly 'n out goin' staff - even if they're fakin' it. HT's are well trained too.

When the cashiers I've been dealin' with for years leave FL I'll be history. It's down ta Terri, Gayle 'n Dianne. Already quit usin' their Kempsville Plaza location.

We have a very nice Hispanic green grocer/produce store near where I live.
They have an excellent meat section as well as great prices on just about anything you may want.

Over the last couple of days, due mostly to the heat and humidity, I did a combination fruit and Mellon salad for dinner last night and will work on a thick sliced beef stake Tomato sandwich for tonight. Maybe two.
I will look for some thin sliced chipped beef or a good ham to make a Chief Salad tomorrow. All fallowed with fruit.
This is a great time of year for this kind of stuff.

Russ's got a line of big box ones also, save a little, sack your own and carry, don't think there is that much difference in prices and gas card don't count, use them for wholesale cuts of meat, good prices on them.  But the one 27th and Cornhusker is where the main smokehouse is.  Go there sometimes and make faces at Ron through the glass as he works.  Good fella, went to school with him, he plays with draft horses.

Got an IGA a miles from home. prices a bit higher but they carry things no one else does like Lyons Golden Syrup and steel ground wheat flour.

Nice looking dogs Roo.  Maybe the caption should read "It's all fun and games until someone poops in the pool!" Had that happen a few times with Great Danes over the years. The two I have now are 9 and 12 and don't want to frolic in a pool anymore. Had a Dalmation many years ago scaled the ladder to an above ground pool and joined the family for a frolic, got him out before he could tear the liner and the chlorine wound up giving him hives.

Good pictures Del, the truck certainly provides a colorful contrast.

Took Mom shopping today and stopped by the gun store on the way home, I think small pistol primers are going the way of the Dodo too.

Got given 400 WSP the other night, yellow and red boxes but look like they were well kept.  Gonna use them.  Got some 1 1/2's in the boxes with wooden dividers, ain't gonna use them, most likely made when FDR was in the Whitehouse.   ::)

There was Small Pistol Primers at the Ace store here.

They still have The Pig here and Win Dixie. The high end is Publix their mailer is like porn. You wouldn't know you were looking at a sale flyer. The other is Market Fresh... Cheaper prices all meat is US raised and processed.  Good selection of everything else. The emoloyees are all about customer service.    c

Mostly shop at the Wal Mart here. Except for meat, that comes from Save-a-lot, they have a pretty good meat department. Got Gerbes and Hy-Vee locally here, too, if I feel like spending an extra 25% average. Those are all 20 miles away, though. The local store in my town sold out a couple years ago, I used to buy all my meat there, but a chain store(Town&Country) bought it and I hardly buy anything there, now, although they made it LOOK nicer.....

Heard good things about IGA but we don't have 'em.

Article in today's pilot (lower case intended) says Wegman's is stickin' four more of their stores in the commonwealth. Supposed ta be real nice. All I gotta do is drive a couple hours ta get to the nearest new one.

Really pretty meats 'n fish at Whole Foods. They got other stuff I didn't know existed. Prices are way higher'n I'm willin' ta pay. Trader Joe's 'cross the street is kinda goofy – fulla trendy hipsters 'n the chicky-babe workin' the cash register didn't think me handin' her my Food Lion VIP card was funny.

Get most the vegetables from Alice at the Farmers Market 'n the stands in Pungo.

Thinkin' Kroger's gonna end up bein' the go-to off site pantry 'fore long.

Been doin' a lot of salads since the heat hit too, Blair. Not this evenin' tho.

Thankee, Roo. But I ain't much for dainty platin'.........................

There's 12 oz. of dead cow under the potatoes 'n mushrooms. Side-of-fork tender.

Looks tasty Arcey. In the crockpot pictures would be ok if you open the lid & get close.

I like to shop at the local mom & pop store. It's an "Affiliated Food Store", lots of em around here, much like IGA - locally owned but with the buying power of a chain. Knowin the folks that run it is a plus, if I want something they don't carry, only have to ask.

Don't buy meat there. Buy it from the man who feeds the cattle. Have it processed to order at the local packer. Price keeps going up, last 1/4 we bought cost what we used to pay for a 1/2. Glad the kids have all moved out - not sure I could afford to feed the boys anymore.

Mornin', y'all.

Yestitty was a July day for the books. Didn't break eighty, a right nice breeze off 'n on with a cloud cover driftin' around. A bonus day 'n taday could be close to it. They're guessin' eighty even.

When the thing's filled with Beef Vegetable soup, lookin' forward ta that, a pic should work. The beef looks kinda lost even in the four quart.

Kind of my plan in the future, start eating my own beef when I get a herd built back up again. For now, with the few I have, and the price they bring, I can't afford not to sell them!
