Field Glasses
« on: October 24, 2005, 11:22:40 PM »
I Found this set of antique binoculars in a small town antique shop, California MO.  Still with the original case.  The glasses look nearly new, nearly flawless black enamel coating, and black leather wrapped.  The only wear is rub marks from setting in the case.  The case itself is well intact, though the leather straps, buckle and hinge had dry rotted clean away!  I drilled out the rivets and installed new leather.

I'm wondering if anyone has any information.  The only markings on them are around the eye pieces, both say "Nautilus Achromatic"  My search engines come up empty.

I'll have them at the muster.  They work great. Seem to be around 12X.  $85.

I also found a set in a small antique shop in St. Cloud Fl.
As your describe, Mine also have Paris on the cross bridge.

What is cool ... engraved in the Black enamal is :  TH Bailey   ......          on one side ... THB on the other
                                                                No. Abington, Mass

and on the other barrel : TH Bailey
                                  4th Mass Cav

The original case is very light leather over paste board and and flock lined, The lid was missing , strap, leather hinge were dry rotted away.

when planets align...do the deal !
