.32-40 ammo or reloading?
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:11:06 PM »
Is anyone into this caliber?  I have a friend who just claimed his Winchester (registered TM) .32-40 from his dad.  It has been in his family since 1906.  I am hoping to find someone who has the fixins but no longer imbibes in this caliber and wants to enter into a divestiture of same.

That is, anyone got any .32-40 stuff they wish to unload?

Any words of wisdom for the neophyte .32-40 afficionado?

Mucho obliged

I bought one a few years back, a John Wayne Commemorative that the previous owner had allowed the butt plate to rust thus rendering it useless as a commemorative. Great little shooter once I spent 6-7 months getting brass and dies. I have 2 favorite loads, a gallery rd using Unique and a full load using IMR 4895. No problems out to 250 yards.

Years back I had a Ruger #3 rebarreled to .32-40 for Schuetzen competition.  A Great caliber for cast bullet shooting.  Most of my cases were .30-30 reformed.  I still have it and my stuff is not for sale, until my estate is resolved.

Late to the game Bob....just found this forum..   Very cool place as I look around a little bit.  I do have a set of form dies for making 32-40 from 38-55...would be willing to part if you're still in the market.  Shoot me a message....

Thanks!  Trails.

32 special cases are better to reform than 30wcf since they neck is already 32. Although they are getting harder to find, it might be as easy to find actual 32-40 as 32 special. I would use whichever of those two could be found and use 30wcf if you cant find them.

I used 30-30 cases for my 1893 Marlin. I also used an RCBS 32-170-FN mold, but cut the cases a little short to keep cartridge OAL to specs. Didn't need any special forming dies, just used the 32-40 dies to expand neck & form cases. Fun shooting.
