What holds in the firing pin?
« on: March 27, 2014, 06:19:29 PM »
I recently bought a Cimarron, pre-war, SAA, 4.75" in 44/40. What a great gun!!!

It appears however that the firing pin is a tad bit loose. Is that normal? Should it wobble a tiny bit?
And what holds it in place? There is a small hole lined up with the pin at the back of the hammer
but it's so small, I can't see what's inside.

Thanks........JohnB

Yes it is normal for the firing pin to wiggle a bit. It is held in place by a pin through the hammer from side to side.

I looked for and expected a pin when I first noticed the wiggle, but didn't see any with these tired old eyes.

Now that I look with a magnifier I can see one. It appears to be casehardened and matches
the hammer surface and coloring perfectly. Nice quality work!!!!

Thanks........John
