I know this about the worst ....

but the parallel might be the best.... if we go there, most of the ones today are aging  :-\  but there may be a few if they were start filming westerns again.

Thomas Haden Church ... good in "Tombstone" , Great in  "Broken Trail "  !
Daniel Craig ( yeah I know he's British ) but he has the look

I like Tommy Lee Jones  but he's getting up there too.
Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot and Robert Duvall

Not to derail the thread, but it's always seemed funny to me that many people discount European actors for western roles because they're "foreign." The real west was absolutely full of immigrants from nearly every European country, plus Russia, the Middle East and even Turkey (most from the latter two regions were merchants.) The only television show that I remember acknowledging this was an obscure one called "The Iron Horse" that ran from '66 to '68. In that one, about half the characters had Scottish, Swedish, French, German, Cockney or other accents. In most western films and shows you'll have Irishmen (usually soldiers) and some random guy called "the Swede," but they're never as pervasive as the ones from "The Iron Horse," or the real west.

Ha!

And as for the above, Hell on Wheels is doing a good job of adding foreigners to the mix.

I agree.

Richard Farnsworth, no contest! Seemed like a nice fellow and looked the part but should have stayed a stunt man.

I'm a pretty big Farnsworth fan. I think his marked low-key approach might not have been everyone's cuppa.
Most folks know him from "The Natural" but I remember "Comes a Horseman" and "The Grey Fox" and liked him in both.

Best Wishes,

Bruce

Sean Connery in "Salako".

Arnold Schwartzeneger in "The Villain"

You can't really blame him, after all he was named after his father.  ::)

Speaking of Sammy Davis Jr,   he was in one of the worse westerns ever - Sergeants 3.   It was a remake of Gunga Din set in the old west and stared the whole Rat Pack.

HEY!  I had a part in that movie, a soldier on a real horse.  I've watched it about two dozen times and never saw myself.  Probably ended upon the cutting room floor.

Forty Rod, I did work for a movie once (not a western) never saw anything I did.  That was ok, as they did pay well.

IIRC we got $12.50 a day for three days and another $4.00 if we had to speak.

A multitude of years later I was in Shenanigans, a movie my daughter and two of her friends made.  You might be able to find it on annual Foreign Not-Very-Funnt marathons on Mongolian TV..... or not.

I beg to differ about Elvis Presley.. He really could act!  If given a decent script.

Flaming Star and Charro

He certainly beats a young Rock Hudson in Winchester 1873.  I think Elvis carried more depth with him than a lot of actors of the period.

Careful about Bogart, he is better with a Tommy Gun.

Never seen, "Virginia City", is it, that the movie is bad or the acting?

You probably have seen it,  just it is sorta forgettable...

Errol Flynn , as a Yankee spy VS Confederate Randolph Scott &  Mis-cast Bogart as a Mexican bandit.
Typical Flynn outcome with glaring mistakes.

I think the worst cowboy actor and singer was Tex Ritter. I just listened to a couple of his songs on a CD that I found in the Walmart bargain bin.  I can sing and act better than that and I can't sing nor act.  God, those songs were awful, especially "Blood on the saddle"
