Found a USFA 38 Super Today
« on: March 15, 2014, 07:20:39 PM »
Local Dealer had a USFA 1911 in 38 Super.  Selling out of his own personal collection.  Never fired in box with manual.  Took it down when I got it home.  This thing is tight.  Beautiful fit and finish.

Good find.  I didn't even know they had made them in .38 Super.

Congratulations!!!  That's quite a find.

Very nice!  I can't find a mark on mine.  I would really like to shoot it, but probably won't.  It looks like the grip screws were fire blued (if that's the right term?).  I would like to remove them to make sure everything is clean under the grips but was afraid I'd mess one up.  Never thought of grip screws as beautiful before, but on this gun they are.  Looks like the trigger may have been given the same treatment.

For what it's worth, when Gary was giving me the factory tour I watched someone niter blue some parts right there. The salts were heated in a common bullet casting pot and simply held in until the proper color developed. I must add that they has the most spotless finishing department I've ever seen and this was when they still had their nickel tanks.
