Uberti Single Action Army Target Model in .44 mag 1982 era
« on: March 13, 2014, 02:17:07 PM »
Hi everybody, new member here.
I'm sure glad to find you. I need some help.
I need a new cylinder for this revolver. It apparently had a flaw from the factory, but was never returned for warranty.
It is a Mitchell Arms model from 1982.
The dimensions of the original cylinder are as follows,
Dia.  1.725
Cylinder length 1.700
OAL( ratchet to bushing)  1.937
Ratchet depth  .147
Cylinder web   .062
Pin size   .265
Have the newer pistols been downsized?
I was loaned a cylinder reputed to be a .44 mag Uberti cylinder, but the dimensions are significantly different.
The dimensions of the new cylinder are
Dia 1.6700
Lenght 1.620
OAL  1.880
Rat depth  .130
Web  .040
Pin  .255
Not even close.
I would like to ask that somebody measure their Uberti  .44 mag cylinders  and tell me what they are and what model pistol they have.
I think that the supposed cylinder is actually from a .44 special size revolver.
Any other help or suggestions appreciated. If you have a correct cylinder for sale please let me know.
( I have talked to Vti, Taylor , GPC, and Brownells but no joy)
Regards, Bill

What are the dimensions inside the frame?  Worse comes to worse, there are companies that make custom revolver cylinders, so you still have an option.

MJN77,
Thanks for the comment.
The current Uberti models in .44 Mag are apparently much smaller than the old ones.
However, since you actually have one, you could confirm it for me.
Do you have a dial caliper?
If so, would you mind measuring the cylinder and compare it to the dimensions I listed in my original post.
Taylors said they had it ( the same cylinder your reply pointed me to) which I bought but the one they sent is not correct.
They are polite, but not willing to measure the actual cylinder of an in stock pistol.
I still don't know if they sent the wrong cylinder, or if they now make  smaller revolvers.
My (flawed) cylinder is both proofmarked and has numbered chambers. The one they sent has neither.
Thanks again,  Bill

Bill,
Have you tried contacting Uberti in Italy, they would be the people to give you correct information if you give them the number of your gun, you could also bring up the fact that it had problems from new, and that it should have been rectified then.
