Webpages--Software Thoughts & Ideas
« on: March 13, 2014, 10:16:42 AM »
Howdy pards,

I am thinking of making a new website for my interest in Cowboy Action Shooting. My old one is over 10 years old and I haven't done anything with it since. Actually not sure if it is even still up.

My experience/training with web publishing software is Microsoft FrontPage, which I liked. However I know it is no longer made.I have an old copy but not sure it would work with Windows 7.

So I was wondering what software do you use/recommend for websites/publishing?

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

I still use FrontPage with Windows 7. It is still one of the quickest and easiest programs for for making quick updates to web pages. Many websites today are built using the PHP prgramming language and software like Dreamweaver but it has a big learning curve. I can make changes and updates much faster with Frontpage.

Howdy Bowiemaker,

Good to know that I can still use FrontPage, I like the program. I have wanted to learn DreamWeaver and may still take a class in that.

I've always wanted to do one on my family background coming here from the dustbowl,i have a magazine (LOOK) from 1952 when they interviewed my grand parents with pics and such. They are going to do an update to Grapes of Wrath, grandpa was a carpentor and went around helping build labor camps, the camp they lived at is about a mile east of me,no longer tin sheds but but small stucco homes with old grocery store across the street. I gew up in town listening to this guy Randy Sharp,i was friends with his younger brother.

I used a website building program called WYSIWYG Web Builder to build a personal website relating my experiences with cowboy Action Shooting www.johnnymccrae.com

I also used WYSIWYG to build a website for our SASS Club www.bristolcowboys.com

My hosting service is iPage.

Howdy Johnny McCrae,

Where did you find WYSIWYG Web Builder? Had you any experience at building a site before? Sites look good.

Howdy Ruff,

You can download WYSIWYG for $44.95. Here is a link to their home page  http://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html

These websites were my first attempts at building and publishing a website. Through the years I tried at least three different website building packages before I settled on WYSIWYG and successfully published a website.

The SASS club website was my last effort. Since building my first website, I've learned how to re-size photos so they will load faster. When I get the time, I'm going to redo my personal website.

Just like the house, . . . every time you finish a project or a job, . . . sit down and put your feet up, . . . you find out about something else that "needs" doing.

Oh, well, . . . plenty of time to get every thing done, . . . heck, . . . we got the rest of our lives,...... ;D

May God bless,
Dwight

Howdy Dwight,

Don't own a house, but the wife and I watch a lot of home improvement shows. So I think that you are correct.

That's very true!

Howdy Johnny,

I can relate to the proof reading. I have my wife double check me and still I make mistakes. I did a business site for a pard. Well I misspelled her Name and it took us 3 months to notice it.

I am always looking at websites seeing what I like, don't like and steal ideas for upgrades. When I build a site for a pard or club I tell them to surf and get ideas.

Howdy Bowiemaker,

That is a well designed website. It displays all of the important information perfectly and has a nice Western look to it.

Thank you for sharing it with us.
