Uberti .44 Russian problem

My .44 Russian was not indexing properly.  Turns out the hand needed to lengthened.

Any body else have a similar problem with their Schofield/Russian?

I had that problem with one of my early Schofield's.
I got a good light and shown it down the barrel as I cocked the revolver, The chambers did not line up with the bore when in full cock.
I put the other cylinder in and everything worked and lined up perfectly.
I call Uberti USA and talked to Maria. She sent me new cylinder with fitted extraction star at no charge.
It seems they had some problems getting the bolt stops on the cylinder and the teeth on the extraction star cut in the proper position to line up with the chambers in these early models.
I have had no other problems with this revolver after that
Not saying this is you problem, just a thought on my part.

My 'smith says he cured the problem. If not, I'll looking into a new cylinder.

It's not the cylinder that is the problem most likely. It is more often that the pawl (hand) has not been properly fitted. Swapping cylinders can cause problems as a revolver is timed for one particular cylinder:  the one it came with. A gunsmith WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS TYPE OF REVOLVER would need a new OEM pawl from Uberti. New pawls are (usually) oversized so as to be fitted to the gun.

As always, a competent CAS gunsmith needs to see it IN HAND to determine the cause. Like doctors and mechanics, it's hard to diagnose on the Internet or over the phone.
