Different Kinda Rock
« on: March 04, 2014, 09:17:52 AM »
Different Kinda Rock, We found on the Muleshoe ranch,Brewster Co. Tx. at about 3,500ft elevation,is an old seabed that has critter's showing-up as the rain washes away the sand  and limestone covering them. Some look to be ancient fish. One is just rib's sticking-out so far. Have been told this area was a seabed about 65 million yr. ago. It is High desert now. Great Muledeer and Elk Habitat .Here is a pic. of a couple find's on the seabed level, that the Mrs. picked-up,,,,,,,,,Dusty

Dusty,

Yes, much of what we think of as central North America was a shallow sea at one point in time.
However, what you are looking at maybe much older than 65 million years... perhaps closer to 150 million years old?

Just as a suggestion, It maybe worth contacting the Paleontologist Dept. to come in and do some investigation into the area?
My best,

Climb to the higher elevations here in WV and you can find some beautiful coral fossils that date to 340 million years ago.

Interesting rocks, there.  Our museum has a fossilized cowboy boot... I think he may have seen better days.... :)

Go up to northern Utah some time.  They have fossilized sea shells and bones at the 7,000 foot level.  Used to be a sea bed )Lake Bonneville) long before my time.
