CVA/ASM 1858 Remington

I picked up an Army San Marco / CVA 1858 from the wife of one of my friends that now resides in the State CF. He can no longer own firearms and I have been helping her to get rid of some of his stuff that the cops missed on their search and destroy raid.
This was the only piece that I personally bought from her as I did not think it had much of a resale value like some of the other stuff he had. I went over it with a mind to clean it up and take off some of the surface rust. I also noted that it had some rusting and pitting in the chambers and a little in the rifling. Would I do well in shooting this revolver with BP or one of the subs?

If it's a brass froame I'd stick to BP or APP but not 777.
