1876 Winchester range day.
« on: January 19, 2014, 11:10:24 AM »
Took advantage of this very nice weather today . Was at the 200 yd. bench at the range at sunup. After fireing a really good group from my 40-60wcf ,I give her a cleaning ,then grabbed the one I enjoy shooting the most. My 1876 Winchester in 45-75 wcf. Load was 350 gr. cast bullet's from an original Winchester mould, then assembled with a Winchester tong tool, over a case full of 2ff Swiss bp. Std. Winchester pimer. The old rifle is fitted with a Winchester mid range tang sight and pinch blade front. Holding a fine bead ,6 oclock hold I fired 7 rounds back to back no wipeing . The group was about 2 in. above center about 1 in. left and the cluster could be covered with a 2 in. circle .Was very happy with the preformance of the old 76 ,and ammunition. Note was the only shooter there, that was shooting old bp. rifle,  AR rifles flanked me on both sides.I was not ashamed of my group's,when we picked up targets,,,,Dusty

Sounds like a great morning. It's always a blast to out shoot those new fangled guns with the old ones.

My son sam and his wife came to visit for the weekend. I took them to the range today.  We shot .22 and .32 rolling blocks and had fun.  But my son wanted to shoot something bigger, so I pulled out my Uberti 1876 .50-95.  At the 100 yard line I took the first 5 shots and hit the gong 3 out of 5 times.  Then after showing Sam how to load and aim it, I handed it to him.  He proceeded to ring the gong 5 times in a row with 5 shots! He was very happy and I was a proud papa!

Evening Folks,

Thanks for two good range reports!  The only thing better than range or hunting time with the 76 is sharing that time with a family member!!

Thanks fellas, it was a really fine day indeed.  It was also my daughter-in-law's first time shooting. After some basic range safety training, I set her up with a little .22 cal #4 rolling block. It didn't take long for her to get the hang of it, she was nailing those ferocious soup cans one after another. She had a good time, but was not quite ready to try the mighty .50-95, but I'll work on her.

Waiting for the weather to clear-up for another sit-down at the 200yd. bench. Have the cartridges loaded up . And the 76's are cleaned and ready. Gonna be hard to duplicate the groups from the last 200yd. shoot. I only compete with myself . Good Day's & Bad Day's . That last trip was a good day! I guess any day Shootin bp. cartridge gun's, is a Good Day. ,,,,,,,Dusty

I don't know Dusty, if I understand correctly Uberti doesn't make the centennial rifle every day and just make a couple runs or so a year based on orders so I guess it depends on how it falls. Another friend of mine has ordered one and my dealer has a couple others so that added at least four orders to be built. Hopefully there are enough other orders to get them made.

The last custom rifle took a year but three months or so was having the US case coloring done. This one is from Cimarron but with the all blued receiver it will come finished from Uberti.

I've got brass and dies, waiting on the rifle so I can slug it before ordering a bullet mold. With my bum shoulder and arm right now I couldn't do much but drool over it anyways. Still that would be somewhat satisfying. ;D

Mr. Dusty ya have me hoping.  If I can get couple of repairs on tractors made Saturday, maybe just maybe the load development using the new Jamison brass can be tested.  Hope you get some time worked in around the rain showers.
