Of course this isn't an original Henry rifle from the 1860s but rather a 21st century version by the modern Henry rifle company.  Over at the NCOWS forum NCOWS Judge Major2 is in the process of evaluating one of them.  His post can also be read on this board under the title "I have Just Taken delivery on..."

Some folks have a lot more money than sense. A modern rifle with some cheesy engraving on it.
That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

I don't know what's "cheesy|" about the engraving. Looks very much like what I see in the Madis book on Henrys. My Uberti 1 of 1,000 looks as good (with matting in the scroll work) but that Henry has better wood.

Something is worth what someone will pay for it. And yes - there are people out there with a lot of money at a time when some are having a hard go of it. Look for that gap to widen .....

As a common 'new' factory rifle offering, I would personally choose a plain Jane version with a shorter receiver and in the 44Russian or 45Special choices over one that is made to keep in a glass case.

Well, if you look closely at the picture engraved onto the left side of the frame, the one that says 'The Original Factory' you will see it is a representation of the same photo that Henry uses in their advertising.

That photo is in fact a photo of the New Haven Arms Company, circa 1858-1859. The original is in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody Wyoming. The photo does not represent anything to do with the current Henry company they have merely appropriated it for their purposes. The figure looking down from the second story window in the picture is thought to be Oliver Winchester himself. But never one to quibble over details, HRAC has appropriated the image as their own and engraved it in brass.

That's cheesy.

With silent bids it may already have... I hope it does, I'd be happy for whomever is the winner, seems a worthy cause.

The funds generated through the Treasures & Traditions auction will benefit the Hunting Heritage Trust. Its mission is to provide support for innovative programs and strategic actions that will help perpetuate America's hunting and shooting sports heritage. The Hunting Heritage Trust is recognized as a 501c3 public charity by the IRS.

I suppose it only for us to marvel at the folks that would have that kinda disposable income  :)

It looks like it went for $50,825

Could have bought a reasonably nice real one for that.
