I grew up about 30 miles from Westviille, and spent a lot of time there as a kid. My ancestors lived in the Wells house, which now stands in Westville, restored to its former glory.
A gentleman named Kary Thornton used to have a sugar cane mill that he operated out on his farm. He fashioned a sapling to the top of the mill, and had an old mule to turn it. The tracks in that race were nearly a foot deep! That old mule, who we always brought carrots and apples for, had spent many years walking Samson like in a circle.
Mr. Thornton had the best sugar cane juice I can recall. Very refreshing on a hot day!
