Faro - a card game similar to poker. Derived from the French game "Pharaoh", Anglicized to "Pharo" and later Americanized to "Faro".
I don't even play cards and I knew that from crossword puzzles.

The cards they used to play with had Egyption Pharough faces on them,not the Kings Queens and Jacks we know of today

Well, no kidding .... D'ya think that that might have had something to do with the French and the Brits calling the game "Pharaoh" and "Pharo"?
Note the spelling - Pharaoh, noun, generic term for ancient Egyptian kings.
