Faro - a card game similar to poker. Derived from the French game "Pharaoh", Anglicized to "Pharo" and later Americanized to "Faro".

I don't even play cards and I knew that from crossword puzzles.

The cards they used to play with had Egyption Pharough faces on them,not the Kings Queens and Jacks we know of today :)

Well, no kidding .... D'ya think that that might have had something to do with the French and the Brits calling the game "Pharaoh" and "Pharo"?

Note the spelling - Pharaoh, noun, generic term for ancient Egyptian kings.
