So where does this go from here? Who's gonna blink first?

First Putin makes Obama look like a schmuck with his diplomatic dodge to avert a missile strike in Syria and now he looks utterly impotent on the home front with his ObamaCare stalled in it's tracks before it even got off the ground.

Clint Eastwood was right .....

That's nice and I'm happy for you.

But I was referring to the rest of the country and all the government employees that are not getting paid, the veterans that are being affected and the children who are being denied access to medical treatment, etc. while the politicians play their games.

It galled the hell out of me when the utility company I worked for went out on strike for three months through Christmas and New Years and we were on strike pay. What the hell had our union reps been doing for the previous two years when there was supposed to be ongoing negotiation?

I thought that they ought to drawing strike pay like we were instead of full salary - like that was gonna happen!

The employees get unemployment, no Vet services or children medical benefits were cut off. Quit listening to CNN.

Better to ask why the Federal Gov't has 800,000 nonessential employees.

I am sorry but as far as I am concerned NO ONE IS DOING THEIR JOB IN DC.  attempting to stop someting  by not letting the system continue is just pure folly. Look at all the people that the folks you THINK are doing their jobs  are suffering.

it is just plain stupid. they ALL are acting like spoild children and NONE of them deserve to be there. and they for sure don't deserve to get paid.

And did you r4ealize all them "concerned" politicians were out parting that night to get reelection money side by side with the "enemey".

they all should be marched outta DC. every one of them.

The Tea party & the AMA get to gloat.

The government saves money.

Guess who loses.

How a country with a lowering of life expectancy can really object to some form of public health system is beyond me. And I am a conservative and a senior citizen who will need ever more medical care as time passes. The objections didn't make sense when I was a 20 year old university student visiting the WA state Capitol and listening to the AMA lobbyists gloat, and it makes even less sense now.

I am not a citizen of the USA, and have no party preference in the US. Just consider this an outsiders impression from a meddling Canuck.

The country is in a terrible mess.

Most of the time the general public keeps their head in the sand and has no idea of how much a mess it is . . . .  :o

A lot of the MESS well illustrated here :    http://usdebt.kleptocracy.us/

Warning . . . it is SCARY . . . look if you dare.

Impeachment? Forget it! Even if the House voted impeachment (and on what grounds according to the Constitution), the Senate would never vote to convict and remove from office! The ONLY chance to change things in DC is next November, when the mid-term elections are held. And then, if the drive-by media continues to lie through its teeth about who's to blame over the current mess, a change in Senate leadership is iffy at best. But it sure is disgusting that they had to even try to close the WWII Memorial (which cooler heads overcame!) and the U.S. military cemetary at Normandy, as well as a bunch of other stuff.  The ripple effects are beginning to be felt across the nation. Defense contractors, who are private companies, but do business with the government, have to furlough employees because the government inspectors are off. The House has voted to exempt the VA, but both the Senate and the President have said they won't go along! But they've got theirs.  >:(  Too bad we can't come up wiht 535 other people who could do the job better.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

By all accounts, The US has been writing bum cheques on an overdrawn account for decades. This fiscal disaster didn't happen overnight or under the watch of any one party.
A country that cannot manage it's own internal affairs has no status in world affairs. It's sad to watch the decline of the US in the eyes of the world.
When Putin can upstage Obama on the international scene as a statesman, he is truly a "lameduck" President in every sense of the world.

All my life I have been an admirer of the "American Way", the spirit of entrepeneurship and "can do" attitude displayed by the American people, but they have been hampered by those who would undermine these qualities with the "nanny state" mentality of equality - taking from those who produce to distribute to those that don't.

"The trouble with socialism is that eventually it runs out of other people's money."   Margaret Thatcher

We've seen the same thing on this side of the line - politicians whose "tax & spend" ideology wins them votes until the bills have to be paid. Then a new era of conservatism comes as a cold shower as unmet expectations and attitudes of entitlement cause knee jerk reactionary rhetoric leading up to the next exchange of incompetents called elections.

Fear not! After a time of tribulation and severe economic set back, our glorious leaders will find a reason to go to war with each other which while it will be hell on babies, trees and other living things, it will do wonders for the GNP and the stock market.

Retroactive back pay, huh? How thoughtful ..... in the meantime what pays the bills and puts food on the table?

The sad fact is that most of the working middle class lives from pay day to pay day, a mere 30 days away from desperation.

There is a global spin off to all of this, affecting the trading partners of the US. Domestically, no one is going to be buying low yield government bonds backed up by all but worthless paper money.

One of the basics of family money management taught in schools is not to spend what you don't have - i.e. massive consumer debt accumulated on credit cards and overspending on unaffordable mortgages, etc.

This applies even more so to national economies. We'd all be bankrupt if we ran our households like the government runs our national economies.

I worked for the State of California. I was one of the "lucky" ones that got to get IOUs for 5 months. the first month went seemingly ok, the banks accepted the IOUS and all was good. But when it started into the second month they refused to accept them. Some of the lucky ones of us were able to join the crediit union and they would take our ious, but here is how that went.

We had to pay $50 to join the CU. (a lot of folks didn't have the $50)
then we went to the CU with our IOU and stood in line with all the rest of state workers, (most times that would be anywhere from 2-4 hours.)
they would give us $200 cash and the rest in a money order.
then we went and had to stand in another line and deposit in our bank. then we had to wait for the hold on the MO to clear to get the rest of our money.

contractors that gave goods and services to the state wasn't as lucky. some  businesses couldn't survive the loss of ready cash. I fear this will befall many of the small businesses that deal with the gov.

BTW (after the dust settled we sued the State class action and of course we won, but we couldn't get cash money as a settle ment, so most of us got 56 hours of vacation time on the books. I actually thought that was pretty cool.

They want to shut down I say we should shut them down.

Send every elected and appointed member of the government and their staffs home.
Stop their pay and benefits....ALL of their benefits...until they solve the problem and come back to work.  NO PAY NOW OR EVER FOR THE TIME THEY ARE OFF!

Turn off the lights, water, phones, gas,and lock the doors.

Tell them they have 30 days to find a viable solution to the money problem and they have to use their own phone, computers, cars, etc to do it.  If they need staff the pay for those people comes out of their pockets...and they have to hire them under the same rules and restrictions that any small business owner has to deal with.  Also, if they make any comment to any member of the media, even to wish them a good morning, they should be charged with violating laws against leaking government info.

If, at the end of thirty days they haven't solved the problem start processing the for termination by seniority.  They will afterwards never be allowed to hold any public office at any level of any government and cannot be hired by the governments of this country nor act as a lobbiest, manufacturer's representative,  or advocate, or have access to the government as a media rep, reporter, historian, legal counsel, or in any other way.

Make plans to pull the teeth of the laws that allow this, of the unions that promote this, and ofthe news media who think that these idiots are doing a marvelous job.

It's well past time the we the people enforce some responsibility from these employees to us, the employers.

Plan on repeating this every four or five years as necessary.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.
