To all of our friends here, as well as our family members, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those valiant Americans and our Canadian brothers for their sacrifice and service on this the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended the Korean War. According to the data from the U.S. Department of Defense, the United States suffered 33,686 battle deaths, along with 2,830 non-battle deaths during the Korean War and 8,176 missing in action. This was a terrible price to pay, but the Korean War Veterans, of what is often called "the Forgotten War", may have prevented World War 111. Today in South Korea veterans from the nations that made up the UN force in Korea are marking the anniversary quietly, with flowers, incense and prayers. In North Korea there is to be a large military parade, and the captured USS Pueblo will be put on display. Some of the wounds from "the Forgotten War" don't seem to heal. Thank you again for your sacrifice and service.
