How many of you

strip the shiny finish off of your 1873 uberti's and replace with oil finish too look more like origional finish ?

If you do , what do you use to remove factory finish ?

I've used this method on all of my Ubertis and my CZ hammer classic shotgun.

I use Winchester red stain by Tapadera http://www.tapaderaswinchesters.com/stain.html which is an amazing product. It is very easy to use and produces a warm red color.

I use Tried and True oil varnish, which is just about the closest today to the old boiled linseed oil of the 19th century.  Rocklers usually stocks it.

I plan to do this to my gun as well, nice to know about the red stain as I like that color. But its a low priority for a winter day with little todo.
