Another weekend...
« on: October 07, 2005, 06:00:10 PM »
Howdy folks!

Were takin' our camper and headin' out to the "wild country" for a spell.

We will check in tomorrow morning before we ride down to Coffeville to make sure the Daltons get stopped once again trying to rob the two banks down there. Since we will just watch the ordeal from the sidewalk, we will be able walk the rounds here again on Sunday.  ;)

Have a wonderful weekend and don't get your spurs tangled up.

Checkin' in.... and it is colder than a "well diggers a** in the middle of December"...
(and THAT'S cold)
WOW! This might be some recored temps for Kansas this time of year.

Last night we had a great campfire with family and friends gathered around..Cooked some big Kansas ribeye steaks on the grill with some hominy and baked beans..
I managed to snake a couple bucks out of the Marshal in rummy..and then it shore was good snugglin' weather to sleep.
So ... we're heading to Coffeyville this morning where it looks like a full day of fun.
We're gonna try to hunt  Guns Garrett and his bride...Megan O'Ruckus .. down today and meet them,
so I am looking forward to that...as we will all be at The Muster together in a few weeks.

Well... I am out of here once again..

We're back and we got some pictures to share..
As soon as Marshal gets all his rounds done tonight, maybe I can talk him into posting some of them.
If not.. we will tomorrow.

 Went squirrel hunting today.
Damn..That Marshal has a good eye for seein' 'em.. Hard to see today with the wind blowin' and all the leaves still on the trees.
They weren't moving much ..and the fish weren't bitin' either. ( Must be the weather change )

I couldn't see diddly sqat of the bushy tailed critters, and couldn't hit 'em after I seen 'em.
Saw one..missed one. Chalk it up to just one of those days..
Marshal saw several... only got a shot at one.. but he got a nice clean head shot.
Only good thing about not bringing any back, is I didn't have to clean any. ;)
But if I don't get myself in gear.. I won't have any to eat either. :-\

Arapaho,

That post was uncalled for (and obnoxious).  If you want your place to be an animal sanctuary that's your prerogative.  But I see no need to berate anyone else for participating in an American tradition… hunting.

By the way… sanctuaries with artificial food sources for wild animals creates unnatural population explosions that significantly increases the risk of a disease outbreak.  Rabies, for example.

Well, I guess we wont be hangin' around your place, Rap.  ???
Not tryin' to stir the pot (no pun intended) but them long tailed tree rats make a mighty fine stew.

Do you have a problem with meat eating in general, or just hunting the little fuzzy varmints? I don't think that hamburger I ate came from a cow that killed itself. Just currious.

Time to fold,

Squirrels are cute, so long as they don't take up residence in the attic or start destroying property.  After that, they're fair game.  I also hear they taste good, but can't say I've ever tried one.

They were getting into our attic and crawl space and then running rampant through the walls.  You could hear them in there rearranging things and chewing.  They were cute to watch until then.

Now they are gone.  Nabs work great for baiting squirrel traps.  Caught a mockingbird with one too.  He was more indignant than any of the squirrels were.

Ok.....I'm going to clear the air on this and tell you where I stand:

I neither hunt, nor do I go fishing. I have never particiapted in either of these and I'm not about to start now.  I am a vegetarian and I eat no meat of any kind.  Before I became a vegetarian...I did eat meat.  I sampled wild game, Deer, Moose, Elk and the rest.  To me it was ghastly tasting!  Gamey and just not pleasant tasting at all!

As I said...I don't hunt, but I will not stand in the way of those who do.  I don't belong to Green Peace and I will not got into the woods and make noises to scare the game off.  I'll leave that for the Green Peace folks.

I have never killed, nor will I kill any living creature...unless it became an immediate threat and danger to me.  Then and only then would I take the life of a creature.  I respect and honor all living creatures and it's not for me to take their lives.

Your option (and opinion).  FYI, keep the flea spray handy, I saw the warnings about bubonic plague were out again at the local state park :o

Never hunted and never fished.  Sad.

Cause for thought.... My how we have "advanced" as a society.  125 years ago, right smack-dab in the middle of the period we attempt to portray in this game, the "option" of hunting and fishing (or not) wasn't even a part of the culture.  And, although vegetarianism had been practiced for quite a few years (primarily by some religious sects), it definitely wasn't a household word.
