On a good note I noticed quite a bit of 22 ammo at the gun show this weekend that was sitting on the tables and not moving at the higher prices. If people would just hold off and quite paying the price gougers the ridiculous prices they would quit buying it all up.

Hear, hear.  This is wisdom.

If you are close to Indianola, Iowa, Theisens on 65/69 has 15 boxes of 22 ammo at $11.00 a box of 100 as of 4/7/14.

If I was close, I still wouldn't pay $11 a hundred for 22s. Rather reload for my centerfires than pay that price for .22.

I was at Wal mart and they had a small amount of 22 ammo on the shelf . I was able to purchase 3 boxes ( 225 rds ) for $1117 each . I am glad to see ammo on the shelf . What are you finding in the line of 22 ammo ?

My local Wal; Mart has them for that price, too-IF you happen to be  hanging around the sporting goods department between 1-7AM, weekdays. That's when they put it out. That's also when the ammo scalpers and all their brothers/sisters/cousins etc are waiting to snap it all up at a limit of 3 boxes per person. Local Gun Shops, when they have them, seem to be about 5.99 a box. Was in Dicks's Sporting goods a few weeks ago, the only 22s they had were in some kind of promotional pack, with a cleaning kit with some giant size spray oil and solvent, for, wait for it.........$40!!! I didn't want .22s that bad.

I watched a YouTube video yesterday demonstrating a new .22 rim fire reloader on the market. Comes with a bullet mold for casting the bullets & some small tools for loading.  After the bullets are made, if you have about ten minutes (not counting drying time for the priming compound) and some cap gun caps or strike anywhere matches (to make primer compound out of) you can produce 1 .22 cartridge. The kit sells for $190. I don't need .22s that bad either.

Hoarders are the problem in my area.   Shoot at the range in Bass Pro here and know some of the guys working there.  They say it is the same 10 guys coming in to load up every delivery day.  most prepper types.

I do not believe it is hoarders, but scalpers, reselling at usurious prices on various venues, and shipping illegally .

I believe you are right about the scalpers Professor. I see them advertised on various venues, but haven't looked at the ads close enough to see how they are shipped.

Since the "shortage" began I have become a bit of a hoarder my self. I have made it a point to be well supplied with ammunition and components since Bill Clinton was in office. I make it a point to purchase more before I run out.  I had several thousand .22 rounds on hand when I began to hear about the lack thereof, and my response has been to not shoot any until I start seeing them on the shelves again.

A wise plan -
Myself,  I am finishing two flintlocks,  have acquired an air rifle, broke out the sling shots and archery gear, and with a plethora of river rocks about I am now going to try to re-create the biblical "sling". I do hope I don't brain myself with the blasted device.
Perhaps I can attempt a yard-sized ballisita ....

I recently aquired my first flintlock.

My limited experience with so far has convinced me that it is a poor replacement for my .22s.

I have always wanted to try the sling. Rocks are in relatively short supply where I live, but I have a good supply of lead and a mold that makes a projectile much like those hurled by the ancient Roman soldiers.

My Good Stu -
that blunder-buster is a fine thing for a coach-man's guard, but I think a .32 or .40 flincher would be better for squirrels and rabbits :-)

Oh, My Dear Sir Charles -
I appologize, I did not mean to imply that was my work! It is but a photo-facsimile that I found on the webs
I will have to look up that ISBN, with any luck Powell's Books out of Portland (my favoritist bookstore in the world) may have it :-)

Hi All

I've ordered but not yet shot, SK JAGD ammunition at $6.5o a box of 50, only $1 more a box than the CCI standard I last bought at $5.50 a box of 50.  I was looking to get the $6.50 a box Eley, but Champion's Choice was out.  If I'm going to be paying a premium price for the ammunition, I may as well have premium ammunition.  My shooting Eley is a lot like putting 1 carat diamonds on your feeder cattle, but at least I can get it.

On a side note, what caliber is that blunderbuss?  It's not HIGH on the list of guns to buy, but I think one of those would be fun at a trap shoot or for squirrel hunting.  Probably wouldn't make that many friends at a Trap shoot that way though.  I bet it would take half a pound of #9 shot...

Not really sure of the caliber of the blunderbuss.  it's hard to measure with the flared muzzle.  I estimate it at somewhere between .75 and 1" :o

Cabela's down here in Fort Worth has had .22 ammo on the shelf for several days in a row.  Maybe the shortage is over.  Federal target 325 round box for 17.95
