About Long Barrels And My Great Job
« on: March 23, 2013, 04:46:26 PM »
I work for 'San Antonio Western Shooting'. We put customers in a Cowboy Hat of their choice and a belt and holster then let'm shoot the same guns we use in CAS.  We let them decide, out of our stock of guns, what they want to shoot. Very many have never fired a gun before, so far none of'm have experience with Old West Type guns. They nearly all prefer a longer barreled revolver. So much that our gun buyer is looking for more long barreled revolvers. I was kinda surprised that so many liked that long barrel.
BTW, if you look over our web page or look us up on FaceBook you can see what we do. This is not a search for customers, we can't keep up with demand the way it is. And yep, I love this job. I get to teach a bunch'a San Antonio history and teach gun handling.

Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Shotgun Franklin,

I can't speak for everyone... that may reply here.
But, I personally prefer the long barreled guns, revolver and/or Long gun/shot guns.
Just my opinion...

I have 2 SAA clones and 2 real Colt's, they each have the 5 1/2" barrel so I guess I'm a medium length barrel guy?

I like the balance of the 5 1/2 but I think I like shooting BP out of the 7 1/2 better so I just shoot one of each.

It's one of the better jobs I've ever had. We stay swamped with customers, mostly foreign tourists, and just can't keep up. I was told today that they want to hire more people so......anyone?

I started using a 7 1/2 after giving a history lesson/demonstration to my nephew about the US Army's 100 yard requirement back in the 1870's and showed him the difference between my 4 3/4 .45 Colt and my son's 7 1/2" .45. at an estimated 100 yards.

End result. I ended up buying myself a 7 1/2".      ;D

I've always liked the 7-1/2" length for sight radius. But for a bit faster handling, I have also packed a 5-1/2" for my 2nd CAS gun. For closer work, the shorter length will do. For targets a bit further out, I draw the 7-1/2" :)
