You can get one built by either C Sharps Arms (www.csharpsarms.com) or Shiloh Sharps (www.shilohrifle.com).

Look at the 1874 Military Carbine at Shiloh, or the 1874 Carbine at C Sharps.  Both are built in Big Timber, Montana.

Cimarron had them cataloged a few years ago.  Some were marked with the Texas Star and sold as Texas Ranger guns.  Not sure if they are still available.

You can find used shiloh sharps carbines for around $1000 if you look. I have 3 shiloh sharps guns and have never paid more than $1100 for one.

I don't know if it's stll available, but there was one over on the BPCR forum a while back: http://www.bpcr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4766#p26876.

I have no knowledge of this rifle or the seller.  I'm just passing on the info.

That's a good question.  I've been a member so long, I don't remember and I can't figure it out...  Hmm...

Rowdy, it was in 50-70.  Two Wright Arms at Springtown, TX had the only carbines I saw.

Actually, in my experience, the 67-68 conversion Sharps in .50gvt is the last remaining affordable original Sharps. Seems to be less expensive than the CW percussion model. I still see them occasionally at the antique arms show for between $1000 and $1800, these are ones in fairly decent shape with a shootable bore. I picked one up several years ago with a nearly pristine bore for $1100. It shoots very well, albeit about nine inches high at the lowest site setting. Fairly decent groups for the short little barrel.

You might consider spending a few more bucks to end up with a truly collectable piece that you can use and make the argument to yourself that it was not a purchase but rather an investment.

Of course have it inspected by a reliable bp gunsmith if there is such a person, or do as I do...., review your will, offer a furtive look to the heavens with a few words of faith, look the other way, and pull the trigger. Has worked for me so far.

Now that is a sweet looking rifle.  I already own an original trapdoor and right now Im looking for a good shooter.  I do love the look of that carbine and saber.

Well someone beat me to the Cavalry Sharps that Griff posted a link too. The seller still has an ArmiSport infantry Sharps with set trigger. It is going for $850, should I get this one or what for a cavalry model? The rifle would pull some hunting duty as well as shoot in long range side matches. Any advice would be appreciated.

A special thanks to Griff for helping me out.

Well, no one seems to be jumping in to advise you.  If you haven't done so, I'd advise searching this forum for previous comments on Armi Sport rifles.  Not being a hunter, it seems like the infantry rifle might be a little unwieldy, but I guess it would depend on your hunting style.  Lastly, I'd haunt gunbroker or similar sites and see what else might show up.  As I mentioned before, there are others with far more knowledge than I have, but I thought maybe I'd get things going for you.

Thanks Griff. After researching I think I'll keep an eye out for a Pedersoli instead.
