buy it or wait, February 2013
« on: February 15, 2013, 02:32:28 PM »
Hi

I wasted a little time talking about ordering an 1873 from a wholesaler and they were all gone by Valentine's day 2013.  Another wholesaler currently has 15-20 Rossi model 92's blued with 24 inch barrels.  Should I jump on the Rossi or wait until someone gets 1873's in.  I PLAN on shooting GAF, NCOWS, and SASS.  I currently own a Cavalry Pietta Colt Clone and that's it.

Thanks

Buy what you really want. If you really want a 73, wait. If you "settle" for a 92 now just because they are in stock yoou will still want a 73. IMHO.

A minor thing,  is your Pietta clone , a cross pin or BP Frame ?

The Cross pin dates to 1893 which will match year of manufacture for the 92 ....

personally,  I'd wait for a 73  which is still fine with your Pietta, The difference of course is the sticker price  Rossi VS Uberti 73

Just thinking your presona era as you level in NCOWS

when planets align...do the deal !

Hi

I'd like to get an Uberti 73, 20 inch or 24inch, second choice would be an Uberti 66 in either barrel length.  The problem is that no one has any available but they DO have some 1892 Rossi's in 24 inch barrel length.  I'm concerned that I might be waiting this time 2015.  My Pietta is the Cavalry model with the BP Frame, and the 7th Cavalry cartouches.

I've put in at Impact Arms for an update when they DO get an Uberti in anything below the 30 inch 1873 or 1866.  What's the "normal" time between shipping?

You didn't say what caliber you wanted. I checked, all are in stock. This is where I bought mine.

All are 24"
44-40

45 colt

38-40

FWIW, the 1873 Winchester was manufactured from 1873 to 1919. So it doesn't matter what style "colt" you have. Just saying.

Hi

Dixie Gun Works is a pretty good place to do business.  I've ordered from them for 27 years, but they're $150.00 higher than anyone else including our highest place here in OKC.  I ordered a Rossi for under $500.00 and it's in stock.  I'm also on the waiting list for both the 73 and 66, but now I'm more likely to get the 66 after reading and thinking about what Major 2 wrote.  I can do a late IW impression and then work my way back to a very early Indian war impression similar to Yellowstone Kelly who shot both the 1860 and 1866 lever actions, at least according to his book.

Thanks

Glad you got my point, I was not sure I made it in my text  :-\

If one was into NCOWS and was striving to level 3 or even Originals , one would not pair Guns of the 1890's to a early Indian war impression
for example.

As an example, I use a 73 Rifle with a Richards Conversion my persona is in the Mid 70's,  I can also use my Henry but would not have a 92.

That not to say, someone, say a railroad guard in say 1894-5 might have a 92 and a BP frame Colt.
More that justifiable he might have the later cross pin Colt with that 92 ...just say'n'
when planets align...do the deal !
