my new USA finish Cimarron P
« on: February 07, 2013, 03:01:49 PM »
Well, I just picked up my new  cimarron I found on GB, it was new old stock in the box with the USA finish. Took her around back and shot 3 cylinders full of 200g jacketed ammo through her since my mould hasn't gotten her yet. She shot exactly to POA but low (which is normal so you can file the sights when you get your load down, but I'm sure yall all know that). Enjoy the pics......

Looks good!  Heavier bullets impact higher, and the original 45 Colt ammo was 250gr so that might hit to POA.  But as you said, settle on your favorite load before filing anything.  Are you going to shoot BP in it?  Have fun!

Yup, I ordered a lyman 454190 mould and will be loading primarily with bp but will try to work up a matching smokeless load too. I was surprised the 200g bullets flew so well. I thought the chambers were going to mic. Around. 454 but they are. 452 my lubrisizer die is. 454 hope it shoots well but bet I'm going to need a .452 die.

TEXCL,

Vary nice gun.  Before you spend bucks for your luber/sizer, slug the bore.  If your bore matches your throats, you'll need a .452 die for your luber/sizer.

unfortunatley I had ordered the lubrisizer before I received the gun. No biggie I'm sure I will need it someday lol. I thought all these italian guns had some sort of safety  on the hammer. This gun doesnt have any safety's. Is this because it was finished in the US?

There are a lot of folks who shoot .454 bullets in these.  If you are casting your own and use soft lead, that should work fine.  I'd try it before buying another die.

None of the Cimarrons have the safety on the hammer.

Good, I'll definetly give it a try before buying a .452 as I am extremely cheap.

Seven grains of unique sure does shoot fine in my Cimarron 5 1/2" Artillary model BP frame, with a 250 gr SWC sized .452". And POI to boot.

My bore slugs .450" and the throats are, .4505", one tight sucker. This is the most accurate piece I own.

Sir; that is one fine looking SAA you have there. ;)

well I picked up some 250g jacketed bullets and using 7.8grns of unique this pistol shoots exactly to poa and into a 3" dot at 25 yards. Not bad for a new pistol that I'm not used to yet. My 454190 lyman mold showed up today so will try some out today or tomorrow.

What is the distinctive difference between the US finish and standard?  I went to the Cimarron web site and saw the pictures but there was no description.

The US finish is real case coloring.

I have examples of both types, the Uberti "hot salt bath" case coloring and the real US Finish "bone and charcoal" case colors and there is an obvious World of difference.
