Tenderfoot getting feet wet!
« on: December 30, 2012, 03:23:11 PM »
I have always wanted to own a SAA. So the other day I placed an order for a Smoke Wagon from Long Hunter Shooting Supply. Any one here have one. What should I expect. Glad  ;D or Sad  :( ! Its .45 LC with a 5 1/2 barrel.

I bought my initial two clones with 7 1/2" barrels and now I wish that I had bough one with a 5 1/2" and on with the 7 1/2". You done good!

Well, personal preference would dictate a 4 3/4 barrel for me, if not shorter (never met a a barrel too short).  Mecanacally however, your gonna like it.

Excellent choice. I concur with the Hoof Hearted. It is very addicting. You will most likely get a serious disease that my physician calls RAD. Revolver Acquisition Disorder.

Hiya Bugs

How come two different lengths?  I just purchased a Cimarron 7 1/2 inch barrel Cavalry Model.  None of the online places have much in stock, so I went ahead and paid for the Cimarron.

I'm confident that you will be very happy with your purchase. I have a pair of Smokewagons in .38 special. I also have one in .45 Colt that I shoot with my USFA. The Smokewagons are the only pistols I've been able to shoot stock right out of the box. All of mine have 5-1/2" barrels.

For me it’s that I like the variety. I can’t shoot the regular matches due to a medical problem, so I don’t have the restrictions that come with the SASS and/or NCOWS rules. In choosing a holster you’ll have to allow for the extra barrel length in the draw. You’ll just have to wear the belt low enough to be able to get those hog legs all the way out of the holsters. I don’t want to get into another rules squabble, so I’ll just say that for 7 1/2” barrels, buscadero belts work best.

Thanks Bugs, I might just get a 5 1/2 for my second SAA in the future.  I'm considering a cross draw holster, but I haven't decided on anything yet.  I'm leaning towards a Fair Weather Christian belt like Frank James and the US Cavalry wore (I have a Pietta in the Cavalry style from Cimmaron).  I plan on shooting GAF, NCOWS, and SAA at least I hope I get to.

I also like two barrel lenghts. One 4 3/4" and the other 5 1/2" that way I'm set for up close work or long range.  ;D
