I'd like to know if someone would be kind enough to post the coupla phone numbers of the dealers of the Slix nipples?
In regard to all the "opinion stated by the venerable Fox Creek Kid" and the tolerances involved with making a gun ,what I call,"dry fire safe", .........
There's also a tolerance range for the space the hammer can be from the nipple that can off set the other tolerance ranges mentioned by "The Kid". The caps themselves add to the tolerance range.
I see from experience that if there's a space between the hammer nose and the nipples that's not to wide for the hammer to wack the cap against the nipple and ignite it it's good to go with no hammer nose damage or at least very little making it negligible.
I've done dry fire safe hammers that may have a very small imprint of the cone to the hammer nose but......if the space between the hammer and the cone is wide enough that amount of imprint stays at a point it's negligible. If I don't want any impring at all I just soften the hammer.....file.....check by dry fire....if alls good.....reharden the hammer and go to shootin.
The tolerance in the gun parts is a problem but if a person understands mechanical stuff and doesn't get too overly indepth and intelligent about it ,like Fox Creek Kid, life can be a little more accomodating as can the dry fire safe hammers. The space between the hammer and the nipple with it's tolerance range accomodates doing a dry fire safe hammer even considering how the hammers are loose on their screws and act a little like a rebounding hammer on a new Winchester 1886 or a Marlin 36 22cal. rifle. You know...the hammer kinda jumps a little further forward and then bounces back to where it rests because of loose tolerances in the gun parts of a cap&baller. The Ruger Old Army is probably not as loose as the Italian guns though.
Anywhoooooo.......I am just trying to say ,and getting too involved about it, that the illustrious Fox Creek Kid is getting a little too deep into the aspects of dry fire safe hammers because...there is a tolerance range to the space between the hammer and the nipples when the hammers at rest which would include that little part of it that acts like a rebounding hammer. The stiffness and lackof it to the hammers mainspring fouls all the other tolerances at the same time. Where does that leave an Hombre thunkin like a philosopher like Francis Bacon? Well....they's gettin too compilated about it.
I just can't help hackin on Fox Creek Kid though. He's always comin up with stuff he knows more than me and it hurts my fragil ego.
