Interesting sight on a S&W American
« on: September 23, 2012, 06:23:54 PM »
I was perusing GunBroker looking at items I cannot afford, but would like to have one day.

I came across this: S&W New Model 3 American, 38-44 cal

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=307588622

I thought the rear sight was particularly interesting.

I looked through my SMITH & WESSON AMERICAN MODEL book by Mr. Charles W. Pate and I didn't see a reference to this style of latch/rear sight.

Pics:

It appears to me to be a NON-adjustable rear sight on the latch, with the other "normal" rear sight in front of it.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Does anyone know where I can buy a S&W New Model rear sight / latch like this?  but not for $1500!  Just asking...!  ;D

That's their combat sight of the day. Teddy Roosevelt's NM3 has one just like it.
Their target sight blade was more like the rear blade on the Beretta Laramie's of today
