'49 pocket, my lucky day!
« on: September 21, 2012, 09:08:35 PM »
Stopped at a local shop on the way home from work to pick up some caps and the owner said "I have something for you." He knows I like projects. He brings out a box with a very rusty '49 pocket. Seems it went through hurricane Hugo, 13 years ago to this very day. The price was too good to turn down, so it followed me home. I expected to soak it in penetrating oil for a week, but it actually came apart easily. Best of all, the numbers match, even the grips and wedge. SN is from 1858. I'm happy!

Good deal.  Is the bore shootable?

Yes, the bore is actually pretty good. I'm working on the chambers now. If they look OK, it will be off to the range. The only serious problem so far is that the hand spring is broken. The cylinder advances, most of the time.
