...anyone know the dovetail size?  I would like to replace the ladder sight with a simple buckhorn sight, as I use the rifle for hunting, at not more than 50-75 yards.  A buckhorn would be far easier to 'pick up' in the low light of the woods.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!  Joe

Track of The Wolf has this sight.  http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/877/1/RS-PM-1

I have this on my Henry and 73.  I have recommended it to several people here and all seem to like it.

The dovetail is a raggedy 3/8.  The judicious application of a dovetail file may be helpful.

Joe,  I am looking for a ladder sight that can be used on either Henry or 1866. Would you be interested in selling or a trade and , if so,what would you need to have?

JW,  Thanks for the gracious offer but it looks as though our deal will go through. HOWEVER,  If it actually has a 3/8" dovetail, I may be looking for another one for my Rossi 92 in 44 mag since the bullet's trajectory is more eliptical than flat out to 600 yds. I had the pleasure (yeah, right) of sighting it in at the NRA Whittington Center a couple of weeks ago and felt like I was shooting clouds but hitting targets from 300-600 yds.  It sounds like a lot of BS but we have a number of members of the SHOOTISTS who do it regularly on a rock at 585 above the Pistol Hunter Silhouette Range each year. One guy used to hit it regularly with a Ruger 357 mag Blackhawk...like five out of five, but he is now in Mozambique so we don't have to put up with it anymore. Sure miss him though.
