This Russian replica is chambered in .45 Colt instead of .44 Russian, but it was still fun to shoot.

Thanks for posting the vid Mike!  I was wondering why all the smoke and recoil and near the end of the vid just before you mentioned you were shooting BP loads I guessed that you were.  I've never really cared for the Russian due to the things you pointed out, i.e., the hump at the rear of the frame making cocking the hammer more difficult and that wierd spur on the trigger guard.  I've always  prefered the Schofield version my self.  My Navy Arms Uberti Schofield is caliber 45 Colt as well.  I like it.

Great video Mike. I watch'em on my big screen with Apple TV.

I am grateful that companies like Uberti make these reproductions. To be able to shoot something other than SAA's (which by the way are great) is fantastic. My collection is growing...

I shoot a pair of the Uberti Schofields with APP in the short Cowboy 45 Special case and can get away with a full match without jamming.  The Colt rims are not always dependable for ejection but the shorter Special brass does make the situation a bit better since the room is there to clear the brass under the star when it does not get extracted fully.

BDM

Really enjoyed your evaluation of the S&W Russian in .45 Colt.

You've got a larger paw than I do, and you had to lose your shooting grip to cock it one handed. A bit of a handicap, but one I could live with.
I responded to your recent article in GOTOW about Mike Venturino shooting his Russian model with two paws. He hangs the index finger of his supporting hand on the spur. Maybe that is what the Czar's troops did.

Questions: what is it like to shoot one handed with a finger on the spur? Do you get a knuckle rap from the spur shooting one handed?
With the Webleys, you can check the cylinder without ejecting rounds by depressing the ejector cam under the hinge pin. Does the S&W have this feature?

The Brits also recommended ejecting by holding the barrel horizontal and bringing down the grip frame. This to prevent a cartridge from snapping under the ejector star, requiring removal before reloading.
