Info needed on 1873 rifle.
« on: June 13, 2012, 10:50:43 PM »
I’m toying with the idea of buying a Uberti version of the 1873 and did a price check on the net.  I found many sources are “temperately out of stock”.  Hmm, anyone know what’s going on?  I am looking for a 20 inch octagon barreled short rifle in 44-40 or 38-40.  Anyone got a suggestion on where to look?

Basically there are three large importers.  Cimarron, Taylors & Co., and EMF.  The 20 inch model is the most popular barrel length.  Try calling all three to see what they have in stock.  You should be able to find a .44-40 with little or no problem.  Uberti hasn't chambered the .38-40 in the 73 for quite a while.  They are very hard to find.  You can also try Gunbroker and the other auction sites for a used 73.

My Uberti '73 is a 20 inch octagon barrel in caliber 38-40 and came from Cimmaron.  I actually stumbled onto it in a small gun shop.  I don't know about availabilty.  I was looking for a rifle in 38-40 for quite some time and was actually interested in a Lightning but couldn't find one in 38-40.  Didn't really care for the prices on the Lightnings either.  Got the '73 for right around $725.00.  Couldn't pass it up.   8)

Good luck in your search.
