All,
As usual I'm looking for a piece to complete my outfit at the last moment...go figure!
Anyway I would like either the Tan/Khaki "cowboy" style hat with the ventilators, or the Peaked/Pillbox style cap! Dirty Billys has both but I missed his closing time, and since they won't be open again until next weekend I'm SOL!!!
Anyone have one, or know where to purchase either one in a 7 3/8, that can have it to me before/by Thursday morning?
Thanks, John.

John,
My experience with Dirty Billy is that he makes the hats to order, and it takes anywhere from 6 months to a year. But his work is first rate. I have both the pillbox barracks hat and the slouch, though my slouch has a different crown crease than that. I looked at a lot of photos of the USV and came to the conclusion that the crease of the hat was up to the individual wearing it. I really do not think it likely you will get one before Thursday, though Coon Creek may be able to expedite the slouch to you. If you would like, I could bring my hats and loan one to you for the event. I likely will be using my Span-Am uniform, so would have at least one of them anyway. If you want to borrow mine (size 7 1/4), email me. You have my address...

Tom,
I know Billy's work is first rate and that in most cases his hats are by order only! Having said that I called the shop on a whim around 5:00, on my way home from work, and not only did he have both of them in stock (in my size no less) he said he could have which ever one I choose mailed out tomorrow if I placed the order tonight & it should get to me by Wednesday no problem!!!
Ah, but there is always a fly in the ointment....I didn't have my credit card that I use for my "living history" purchases with me and he closed in one hour! Usually no big deal, BUT, I had to go to the store on my way home and I hit construction traffic so I was really gonna have to move if I was gonna get home in time....
You guessed it-I didn't make it! And to add insult to injury, Billy called my cell # a little after 6 and said he was leaving and just wanted to see if I was still interested...of course I am I said to the voicemail that he left, because I was downstairs and my phone was up!! I suppose I should have tried when I got home but I'm used to closing time is closing time and don't bother trying to reach somebody after that time! I did however call him back and leave a message for him telling him that I appreciated him taking the time to call me after hours and that I was sorry I hadn't gotten back to him in time.
John.
RCJ,
Thanks for the link...I wish they had pictures. Will get send them an email in the morning and see if they have any in stock, in my size, and that can be here before Thursday morning.
John.

Major 2,
Have had 3 from Tim Bender, each one was a fantastic piece, but the majority of his hats are geared towards the CW era with a few making the transition to the Old West! I have not talked with him about it but I would venture to guess that he doesn't hat that close to the turn of the century!
