Military Truck Owners: I need your help!!! (Legal issues)

I currently reside in New York City and I want to purchase a Deuce and a Half for regular commuting/delivery/construction use.

Are those trucks legal to use on all national and local streets and highways?

If anyone lives in NYC too, I appreciate it even more. I have looked thoroughly through the DMV site but I cannot find anything pertaining to those kinds of trucks.

While they're good on all roads - they're a pain in traffic for any sort of commuting, and for construction use - the bed's too high.

You 'may' want to re-think this one for your intended purposes.

Thanks!  ;DThe LeMat project is still in my consideration, though since it is my main carry piece, I have to designate another official truck gun before I send the LeMat in for overhaul.

Mongolian oil?  ;DNah It's the earnings from the freight that the I run weekly. I also have a biodiesel synthesis kit. If the Deuce can run on biodiesel, which I can get cheaply, I am all set!

You may need to check with DOT but I would think it's going to fall in the category of other commercial vehicles of the same size.

I know of some guys that used them years ago for off road wreckers and things like that. They sit really high to put a very tall dump bed on and really pretty high for flat bed use. I also remember someone having one with a water tank on it to wet dry ground for compaction during the dry season.

Basically there may be very specific applications where one would be great, if needed to go off the road and work on rough ground when it reaches the job site, etc, but if your going to be on the black top and just off in the dirt making a delivery your better off with another tandem truck with the right suspension, motor and gearing.
