Shooting Uberti .45 Lightning II
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:32:36 PM »
Been getting some range time with my Uberti 'Lightning II'.  I think if one started with this gun, mastering it's oddities would be a lot simpler.

Biggest problem I have with it is disciplining myself to not put any rearward pressure on the forestock. Reminds me of shooting skeet with a Winchester M12 - 'pulling it apart' in order to do a quick pump action on doubles.
The method that seems to work is to merely support the pump handle rather than apply any rearward pressure. If you do, the action comes easily out of battery and a light hammer fall is the result.
Since there is no closed bolt lock, this is a little disconcerting as the transfer bar allows contact with the firing pin. I don't know if this is a trait common to the originals as well.

Can't fault it for accuracy and it gets compliments for 'eye candy'. I've been shooting both 230 RN and 250 RNFPs with 6 grs Red Dot.
Haven't settled on one or the other for function or acccuracy.
