Mornin' all.  The Boy had his first out-of battery discharge yesterday evening - still has the requisit number of fingers & eyeballs, but to say he was somewhat startled might be an understatement.  Still has some ringing in one ear and this much damage to his .22:

Thanks for the Cawfee this morning. Sausage/egg/cheese burritos for breakfast. Belated Birthday wishes to Bro. WM and Miss B. Moose brought home some smoked sausage and potato salad for supper last night. They went well with the leftover pinto beans. She left the kitchen relatively clean last night. We've had a lot of hot, humid weather lately. No rain forecast for anytime soon. Our Cabela's is north of Fort Worth. I went over there not too long after it opened, but I didn't buy anthing. We've got a Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine that's a lot closer to my house. Victoria is sleeping in this morning and I'm still drinking Cawffee to wake up.

I'm guessing those are Ruger 10/22 parts.  How did he manage an out of battery discharge?

Garden looks dang wet today, gonna head downstairs later an work.

I figured the parts would be widely recognized.  He single loaded an old cartridge he found on his bedroom floor in the magazine & dropped the bolt on it.  He said the round didn't appear to be bent or damaged in any way, but I didn't see it before hearing the noise from the front yard.

Mornin, sunshine gone away an it's holdin at 50.  Gonna do some garden work afore the rain comes.

Happy belated WM an Miz B.

Ty was really tickled when Ruger started selling a 25 round magazine for it, he had tried other brand & they all had feeding issues.  His 10/22 has most of the available accessories bolted on it - I keep telling him all he needs not is the satellite dish & cappuccino maker.

My nephew and my brother has ones like that.  My old Remington Nylon 66 works just fine.

A kid I hunted with in high school carried a Nylon 66 - it worked fine until the temperature got way below zero - turns out it has some nylon on the inside too.

Neighbor  cross the street had one an if ya set it next Rusty's ya couldn't tell it was the same model rifle.  His was set up ta look like somethin the SWAT team would cary.  Most Rusty did was put a small scope on his.  Spent a hunert rounds dialing it in when he coulda been hittin targets with the stock sights but it seemed ta be fun fer him.

I bet he oiled the thing, they don't work with any oil on the inside.  I never had a problem with mine, I could leave it in the pick-up at -20 and then get it out and it worked fine.

Ty's doesn't look anything like the rifle I bought a couple years ago - has the black "tactical" stock & a big scope & bipod - he also has an AR, even more decked out in accessories - even his shotgun, ordinary over/under, has a black plastic stock.

Bet your right, we never thought of that back then, just left in in the pick-up when it got that cold because it wouldn't run at all.  Makes sense though, the whole idea of the plastic parts inside would be that it wouldn't need oiled.

Yep, the type of Nylon they used is self lubricating.  The moulds for those finally wore out I've heard and they Ruger had taken over the market, mostly because of all the "cool" stuff you could get for them.  Remington decided not to retool.  Too bad, in a lot of ways they might have been the best semi-auto 22 around.

Brown, it cost $59 back in 1976.  I wish I'd of picked up one of the black ones that were chomed before they got collectable, ugly but cool looking, like a 1947 Studebaker pick-up is ugly but cool.

They made a gallery model also that shot 22 Shorts.  Always wanted one of them also.  You ever seen a green one?

I never thought guns or pick-ups had to be pretty to be cool.

Don't believe I ever say a green one.  I carried a J.C. Higgens back then, inherited it so it only cost me the $2.00 I paid for a new firing pin after many years of use.  Its been at the bottom of the Platte River since a 'coon hunting accident in the mid 1980s, replaced it with a Winchester model74 that I purchased from my father-in-law.

I guess they only made 45,000 of the green ones.  I've only seen a couple at gun shows in the past.

I just read in the American Rifleman that Hornady is recalling some lots of .500 S&W ammunition because it "may exhibit excessive chamber pressure" - I was under the impression that "excessive chamber pressure" was the whole idea behind the .500 S&W.

I ain't figured out what the idea of that is.  Seems everyone I've talked to that owns one has shot less than a box of ammo through them. Roll Eyes

I went by the local Subway and picked up a ColdCut Combo for lunch. Victoria enjoyed the Ham, Turkey, and Roast Beef. The kitchen cleaned up quick this morning. No clue for supper tonight. We got another hot day ahead, It's already up to 84, with a high of 90.
