We had a high of 91 today. We went to the DQ for a Blizzard this afternoon. It was so hot that it melted before I got back home. I ended up sipping it through a straw, but it was good. After it cools down, I'm gonna grill some cheese burgers on the patio.

Good thing is was spring and things are nice and green and damp.  Nephew about burned the farm down today.  He was back doing something in the timber with out 1957 Massey Ferguson 65 and something went rattle, rattle and before he got it shut down it went bang and then he had burning oil all over.  He stomped the fire out quickly.  The tractor had a big owwie and I don't think a band-aid is going to fix it.   Roll Eyes

Ouch.  Nope a bandaide won't help but the big ugly hole is not the worst of the damage. If the crank's not ruined & you get the innards back in workin order, some JB weld should patch that hole - did that once on a John Deere A & it ran for years - might still be running as far as I know.

Yep, I think that engine has seen better days.  The Cheese Burgers turned out great. The patio finally cooled off after 8 pm, so we ate outside. We had some baked beans and potato salad to go with the burgers,

Thanks for the Cawffee and grub this morning. It feels like a 2 Pot mornng. It's gonna take a mighty big patch to cover that hole in the block. It might be easier to find another block. You're gonna need to tear it down to check and replace parts anyway. Another block would be a long term fix.

Mornin, early one at that.  50 out an the sun aint even up.  Rumors a 85 later.
Had fried yardbird an fried brussel sprouts las night, poached egg with swiss on a muffin this mornin.

Watchin Press the Meet, don't know why I bother.

Patched a hole in an aluminum rocker cover once with JB but it was only bout the size of a nickel.  It was an old Moto Guzzi police bike that I took the crash bars off and promptly crashed.  The JB held for a long time until I got a new/old one.

Morning y'all.
Thanks fer the coffee and grub, Sod Buster.

That don't look good, Del,

Did 3 hooves in 1.5 hours with the Hoofjack yesterday. Started on the 4th and the gelding decided he had enough. He did a lot better than I thought he would. When My uncle did it last fall, he had to drug the gelding.  Shocked

Thanks for the coffee, SB Wink

Del can weld, but is that block worth the effort? might be better $-wise to just find a good used engine to drop in there. Roll Eyes

My MIL had a Vega wagon, got it new ( 75 or 76) . I hated to drive that thing, just referred to it as a Vaguely, vaguely resembles an automobile Roll Eyes Grin

It might be hard to found one for a reasonable price.

Litl' brother does that stuff at the farm, he's down Tex's way right now.  Got a feeling this one is gonna be offered for parts and something will replace it, he's wanted to for a while, more than the engine is tired on that one.

Yep, Those all aluminum engines weren't the best of engines. They built a all steel version called the "iron duke" that they put the little Pontiacs. They were fairly reliable. Installing a used 350 and turbo would solve the Vega engine problems.

My Vega was a 74 GT model, It had a 10 bolt Posi rear,Hotter cam and a Holley/Weber progressive 2 barrel Carb,(think half a 4 barrel) It had front and rear sway bars and handled like it was on railroad track,The only down fall was it had a automatic tranny in it,wouldn't get out of it's own way.

Tex, that Iron Duke was nothing but the 144 CID 4 cylinder Chevy II engine.  They had sold the rights to Mercury Marine and bought the right to make it back.

Major, those carbs work real good on hot VW Beetles. Grin
